Christmas CD

The Chanticleer Singers have just released a new CD of Christmas music, ranging from traditional favourites to more recent works by John Rutter, and York composers Andrew Carter (new Honorary President of the choir) and Dick Blackford.
Also included is the wordless, beautiful and evocative piece 'Angel Song II' by Durham composer Will Todd.
Tracks - there are twenty four in total - include 'In the bleak midwinter', 'Hark the herald angels sing', God rest ye merry gentlemen', 'What sweeter music can we bring' (Rutter), 'Benedicamus Domino' (Warlock), 'Great our Festivity' (a new carol by Andrew Carter, specially written for the choir) and a lovely arrangement of 'Away in a manger' by Philip Moore, Organist Emeritus of York Minster, who also accompanied the choir on this recording.
The recording - made in the chapel of Castle Howard, thanks to the support of the Hon.
Simon Howard - was made over two weekends in February 2009.
