What the Choir say about Chanticleer

Great camaraderie and great singing too.
It is a joy to sing with the Chanticleer Singers as they are a talented and friendly group of musicians, making music for pleasure.
I always go home 'on a high' after rehearsals and concerts.
Rehearsals are musically stretching, but there's lots of laughter too.
The Singers have spent many happy and interesting hours recording 'Songs of Praise' for the BBC. On one occasion, early in the year, half a day was spent at Embsay Railway, in order to record ten minutes of a programme devoted to the hymns of Sankey and Moody. The choir arrived at Embsay in the middle of a blizzard. Most of the singers were dressed in long, warm Victorian dresses and coats. Those were the 'toffs', waiting to board their train. Two lucky lads were required to remain in shirt sleeves to be the station porters. One scene was shot in the station waiting room where the 'toffs' and Pam Rhodes, the presenter, huddled round a roaring stove while the 'porters' walked to and fro along the platform. The director thought it would be a good idea if the 'porters' could be seen walking past the window while the interior filming took place - simultaneous outside activity! The manoeuvre was tricky because the timing of the 'porters' arrival at the window was critical. However, after four of five 'takes', during which the 'porters' became colder and colder, the director declared himself satisfied - and the 'porters' were allowed to warm themselves up by the fire with the 'toffs'.

Having made such a great sacrifice in the cause of 'Art', the brave boys were looking forward to seeing themselves on the box - but - you've guessed it! When the film was finally shown, there was no sign of them!
Fortunately, a friend took a photo of them standing by the locomotive - to prove that they'd been there.
